Drawing Kenneth MacAlpin

Whilst listening to Catherine-Ann MacPhee singing, Canan Nan Gaidheal; I was inspired to draw my namesake; kenneth MacAlpin (Coinneach mac  Ailpein) the first Ard Righ (High King) of both the Scots, and the Picts.

Cinead’s mother was a Pictish princess, and his father was a Gaelic king of Dal Riata. He was the first to unite the Pictish maternal monarchical line with that of the Scots line (Gaels of Dal Riata)

The drawing is based on his depiction in the frieze in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, located on Queen Street, Edinburgh.
